William & Mary 1689 silver Threepence, first busts, no stop by date
William and Mary (1689-94), silver Threepence, 1689, tall 1 in date, 9 touches crown arch with double struck 8, no stops on reverse, conjoined first busts right, King without nostril, reads GVLIELMVS. ET. MARIA. D.G, rev. crowned mark of value, legend surrounds MAG. BR. FR. ET. HIB. REX. ET. REGINA, weight 1.52g (Seaman mule of obverse A with reverse 5; Bull.921; ESC. 1988; Robinson p.151:94 [iii]; S.3441). Toned very fine and presumably extremely rare.
The Latin legends translate to on obverse "William and Mary by the Grace of God" continuing on the reverse as "King and Queen of Great Britain, France and Ireland.
This coin would appear to have a later reverse usually found with Seaman's second and third type obverses muled with the first busts obverse. The easiest identifier of this first bust is the straight base to the Kings nose with no upturn for a nostril. The reverse is distinctive by the double struck 8 and the lower 9 touching the crown arch.
