William IV 1831 Sovereign,WW no stops MS65

William IV (1830-37), gold Sovereign, 1831, first bare head right, nose points to second N in legend with rounded ear, WW incuse on truncation without stops, GULIELMUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D: toothed border around rim both sides, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, ANNO 1831 below (Bentley 960; Marsh 16A R5; S.3829A). Has been graded and slabbed by NGC as MS65, though they do not differentiate the variety, this coin is the second highest graded 1831 Sovereign at NGC of which there are 39, and finer than all the pieces of this variety graded by PCGS.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "William the Fourth by the Grace of God, King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."

Ex Spink and Son Ltd, purchased 1932.

Ex Wing Commander Norman Macmillan OBE, MC, AFC, DL, (1892-1976), World War I Fighter pilot and author, purchased from his family late 2006.
