William III Sixpence, 1697, second bust, very rare

William III (1694-1702), silver Sixpence, 1697, second laureate and draped bust right, legend and toothed border surrounding, GVLIELMVS. III.DEI.GRA, rev. crowned cruciform shields, small crowns, Lion of Nassau at centre, date either side of top crown, .MAG BR.FRA ET.HIB REX. weight 3.09g (Bull 1224 R2; ESC 1564; S.3537). Toned, with pleasing dark colour, very fine for issue and much better than usually seen for this bust type, very rare.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "William III by the Grace of God," and abbreviated on the reverse as "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland."
