William and Mary 1690 tin Farthing, ex Madison

William and Mary (1688-94), Tin Farthing, 1690, copper plug off-centre, second conjoined laureate and draped busts right, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GVLIELMVS ET MARIA, rev. Britannia seated on globe with spear, shield and spray of leaves, date below in exergue, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITAN NIA, edge inscribed and dated in raised letters NVMMOMRVM**FAMVLVS.1690* (Peck 579 R; S.3451). With some original lustre evident both sides, a few small corrosion spots both sides, edge knock, otherwise about extremely fine and rare.

The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "William and Mary" and on the reverse "of the Britons" and finally on the edge "The servant of the coinage."
