Victoria 1897 Penny

Victoria (1837-1901), bronze Penny, 1897, older veiled head left, T.B. below for engraver Thomas Brock, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA. DEI. GRA. BRITT. REGINA. FID. DEF. IND. IMP. rev. Britannia seated right with shield and trident, date in exergue, denomination in words above (Fr.145 dies 1+B; S.3961). Some light specks, small patch of tone on cheek, light tone over considerable lustre, uncirculated.

The abbreviated Latin legend on the obverse translates as "Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."
