Victoria 1896 Florin, old head, Davies dies 2/B NGC graded MS64
Victoria (1837-1901), silver Florin, 1896, older crowned and veiled bust left, T.B. below for designer Thomas Brock, legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA. DEI. GRA. BRITT. REGINA. FID. DEF. IND. IMP., first I of legend to bead, rev. crown over three emblematic shields over crossed sceptres, emblems interspaced with garter motto HONI. SOIT. Q MAL Y. PENSE., outer legend surrounding, ONE. FLORIN. TWO. SHILLINGS, left hand leg of H to space, date at bottom (Bull 2966; Davies 843 dies 2+B; ESC 880; S.3939). Darkly toned in excellent state of preservation, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as MS64.
NGC certification 3827967-018 - we note as of March 2026 that NGC have graded 43 pieces of which only four are finer than this piece. For comparison PCGS have graded 30 pieces of which five are finer.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Empress of India" with he French Garter motto on reverse as "Evil to him who evil thinks."
