Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1891, high shield, London, Tower Hill Mint, Golden Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, pearl earring with pearl necklace, plain truncation variety, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below more spread out either side of bottom of frame, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: (DISH L-; Hill 480A R5; cf. Bull EGC 1366; S.3869C). Toned with some light wear and surface marks, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as XF45, extremely rare with high shield.

NGC Certification 8368654-007.

Calendar year mintage 1,087,884 of which only a small proportion would be high shield variations.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God," on obverse and as "Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith" on the reverse.
