Victoria 1888 Maundy Set, first year for Jubilee head on Maundy

Victoria (1837-1901), silver Maundy set, 1888, Four, Three, Two and One Pence, each with Jubilee style head of Queen left, legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITT: REGINA FID: DEF:, rev. crowned mark of value with date either side all within oak wreath (Bull 3545; ESC 2502; S.3932). Toned generally extremely fine to good extremely fine.

The calendar year mintage for all four denominations for the year 1888 would produce 4,488 Maundy sets.

The Maundy money did not feature the Jubilee bust until the coins dated 1888, as the Maundy service of Easter 1887 predated the Jubilee celebrations of June that year, therefore the young head featured upon that year's Maundy.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith."
