Victoria 1888 Crown, wide date, only 8-10 examples in commerce
Victoria (1837-1901), silver Crown, 1888, wider spread date, Jubilee crowned bust left, initials J.E.B. on truncation for designer Joseph Edgar Boehm, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA D: G: BRITT: REG: F: D: rev. St George and dragon right, wide date in exergue, B.P. to upper right for designer Benedetto Pistrucci, edge milled, weight 28.30g (Bull 2588; ESC 298A; Davies 481; S.3921). One tiny short scratch by R of REG, toned a little unevenly with underlying brilliance, otherwise the finest we have seen of this extremely rare wide date variety, the cataloguer is only aware of eight to ten examples in commerce.
The Latin legend translates as "Victoria, by the grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
