Victoria (1837-1901),gold Proof Half-Sovereign, 1887, Golden Jubilee issue, crowned and veiled Jubilee style bust left, I.E.B. on truncation for designer Joseph Edgard Boehm, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA,rev.struck en medaille, crowned quartered shield of arms, date below, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: edge milled (WR 362; Marsh 478D; S.3869).Some very light hairline marks in the fields, otherwise brilliant, practically as struck, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as PF64 Ultra Cameo, becoming scarce.

We note there are a total of 183 grading records for 1887 Proof Half Sovereigns across both services of which only 32 are graded finer than this coin offered herewith as of November 2020.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."

One of only 797 pieces issued for the Golden Jubilee.
