Victoria (1837-1901), gold proof Half-Sovereign, 1887, Jubilee type, crowned bust left, I.E.B. on truncation for designer Joseph Edgard Boehm, legend surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. struck en medaille, crowned quartered shield of arms, date below, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, edge milled, weight 4.03g (WR 362; Hill 478G; Bull EGC 1360; S.3869). Obverse handling marks, nicks and scratches evident, otherwise well struck with mirrored fields, good extremely fine, rare.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
One of only 797 pieces issued for the Golden Jubilee.
