Victoria 1887 M Young Head Sovereign, St George reverse

Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1887 M, Melbourne Mint, third young filleted head left, W.W. raised on truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. St George and dragon right, long tail to horse, date in exergue, small B.P initials to upper right, weight 7.95g (Bentley 786; McDonald 173; Marsh 109; S.3857C). Toned, bagmarked, almost very fine.

Calendar year mintage 2,901,500.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Briton's, Defender of the Faith."
