Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1887 S, Sydney Mint, Australia, Golden Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, pearl earring with pearl necklace, J.E.B. initials closer and raised on truncation with hooked J, arranged in a straight line with the J. intruding the field, the E . B at the juncture of truncation and field, the final stop more distant on the truncation, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. struck en medaille, crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below either side of bottom of frame, mint mark letter S directly below frame at border teeth, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, edge milled, weight 3.96g (DISH S504 R4; Marsh 485C R4; S.3871A). Toned with a few light surface marks, very fine and extremely rare.

Mintage c.16,750.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God," on obverse and as "Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith" on the reverse.
