Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1887 M, Melbourne Mint, Australia, Golden Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, pearl earring with pearl necklace, J.E.B. initials close and raised on truncation with hooked J, arranged in a straight line along the juncture of the truncation and the field, the B only intruding the field below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. struck en medaille, crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below either side of bottom of frame, mint mark letter M directly below frame at border teeth, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, edge milled, weight 3.99g (DISH M506 R4; Marsh 483E R4; S.3870A). Lightly toned, a few light surface marks and hairline scratch in obverse field, otherwise almost extremely fine and extremely rare.

Mintage c.9,413.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith."
