Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1887 M, Melbourne Mint, Australia, Golden Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, pearl earring with pearl necklace, J.E.B. initials close and raised on truncation with hooked J, arranged in a slight arc, J.E on the juncture of the truncation with the field, the .B. intruding the field below, the J quite tall, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. struck en medaille, crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below either side of bottom of frame, mint mark letter M directly below frame at border teeth, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, edge milled, weight 4.00g (DISH M505 R4; Marsh 483D R4; S.3870A). Lightly toned with a little underlying brilliance, some nicks and surface marks, otherwise almost extremely fine and extremely rare.
