Victoria (1837-1901),gold Half-Sovereign, 1887, London, Tower Hill Mint, Golden Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, pearl earring with pearl necklace, J.E.B. initials close together raised on truncation with hooked J, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA,rev.struck en medaille, crowned quartered low shield of arms, date below either side of bottom of frame, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: edge milled, 3.98g (DISH L503 R5; Marsh 478B R5; S.3869A).Toned with some light digs in field by base of reverse shield near 87 of date, otherwise a bold very fine, very rare.

Mintage c.3,397.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God," on obverse and as "Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith" on the reverse.
