Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1887, London, Tower Hill Mint, Golden Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, pearl earring with pearl necklace, J.E.B. initials close together raised on truncation with hooked J, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. struck en medaille, crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below either side of bottom of frame, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: edge milled, weight 4.00g (DISH L503 R5; Hill 478B R5; Bull EGC 1354; S.3869A). Once cleaned, surface hairlines, extremely fine and rare.

Mintage c.3,397.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God," on obverse and as "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith" on the reverse.
