Victoria (1837-1901),gold Half-Sovereign, 1887, London, Tower Hill Mint, Golden Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, pearl earring with pearl necklace, imperfect J type initials on truncation, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA,rev.struck en medaille, crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below either side of bottom of frame, legend commences lower left with toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: edge milled (DISH L508; Marsh 478F; S.3869).Toned, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as MS65.

NGC certification 6030668-005.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God," on obverse and as "Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith" on the reverse.

Currently on the NGC population report there are records of 434 graded 1887 Jubilee Half-Sovereigns of which only five are graded one step higher than this coin at a 66. For comparison PCGS has records of 389 pieces graded of which only 13 are finer.
