Light blue tones to the silver generally extremely fine, the bronze with some mottled tone and underlying lustre, extremely fine, the gold lightly hairlined with some handling marks and tiny nicks, generally extremely fine, the box custom made but without a maker name.

The new design of bust used for the first time in 1887 by Joseph Edgar Boehm did not prove popular in the long run and received much criticism at the time for the "toy" size crown upon the head of Queen Victoria. This eventually culminated in the "old head" design being introduced only six years later from 1893.

Such currency sets as offered herewith were issued as mementos of the 50thanniversary Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria's reign in 1887, but usually with four gold and nine silver coins only. This set highly unusual in the custom made nature of box to allow housing of the bronze coins and two extra Sixpences of the young and Jubilee heads with the "value" reverse.
