Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1885 M, Melbourne Mint, Australia, mint mark M below second young filleted head left of the third style, W.W. raised and distinct on truncation for engraver William Wyon, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA D: G: BRITANNIAR: REG: F: D:,rev. St George and dragon right, short tail to horse, date in exergue, small B P initials to upper right, partially visible, weight 7.95g (Bentley 784; McDonald 169c; Marsh 107A; S.3857C). Toned, peppered with bagmarks and digs, some scratches, good fine.

Calendar year mintage 2,966,500

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God Queen of the Briton's, Defender of the Faith."
