Victoria (1837-1901),gold Sovereign, 1880, first young filleted head left of the third style, WW buried in truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA,rev.St George and dragon right, short tail to horse, date in exergue, small B P initials to upper right, only the B visible (Bentley 314; Marsh 91; S.3856B).Toned with some light bagmarks, has been graded and slabbed by NGC as MS62.

Calendar year mintage 3,650,080.

NGC certification 4863859-015.

We note a total of 63 short tail 1880 Sovereigns have been slabbed and graded across both services of which only 5 pieces grade finer than this.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God Queen of the Briton's, Defender of the Faith."
