Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1880, first young filleted head left of the third style, WW buried in truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. St George and dragon right, short tail to horse, date in exergue, small B P initials to upper right, only the B partially visible, weight 7.99g (Bentley 314; Marsh 91; S.3856B). Toned with many surface marks and scuffs, a bold fine.
Calendar year mintage 3,650,080.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God Queen of the Briton's, Defender of the Faith."
