Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1879-S, Sydney mint, Australia, shield reverse, young head left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms within laurel wreath, mint letter and emblems below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, 7.99g (Bentley 662; McDonald 126; Marsh 75; S.3855). Toned with some light surface marks and digs, otherwise almost extremely fine.

Calendar Year Mintage 1,366,000.

The obverse Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the Grace of God", reverse "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith".
