Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half Sovereign, 1878, die number 106 on reverse, second young head left, type A3, date below, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, toothed border around rim both sides, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, die number below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REX FID: DEF:, weight 3.93g (Hill 453; Bull 1285; S.3860D). Toned with surface marks, good fine, the die number not listed in Marsh or Bull, rare.

Calendar year mintage 2,317,506.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse as "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
