Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1873 M, Melbourne Mint, first young filleted head left of the third style, W.W. raised but incomplete on truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. St George and dragon right, long tail to horse, date in exergue, small B.P. initials to upper right, weight 8.00g (Bentley 760; McDonald 147; Marsh 95; S.3857). Lightly toned, with proof-like underlying brilliance, lightly bagmarked, otherwise a pleasing extremely fine.

Calendar year mintage 752,000

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God Queen of the Briton's, Defender of the Faith."
