Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1872 S, Sydney Mint, third young filleted head left, mint letter S below, legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA D: G: BRITANNIAR: REG: F: D:, rev. St George and dragon right, long tail to horse, date in exergue, small B.P initials to upper right, note lack of last stop, weight 8.00g (Bentley 675; McDonald 144; Marsh 111; S.3858A). Toned, small short nick on cheek and one on neck, a few other light marks, otherwise almost extremely fine

Calendar year mintage not separated from shield reverse type, grand total = 1,815,000.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
