Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half Sovereign, 1872, die number 246 on reverse, second young head left, type A3, date below, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, toothed border around rim both sides, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, die number below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REX FID: DEF:, weight 3.95g (Marsh 447; Bull 1277; S.3860D). Toned with surface marks, two scratches in field, once polished, Fine, reverse better, the die number not listed in Marsh or Bull, rare.

Calendar year mintage 3,235,112.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse as "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
