Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1871, St. George reverse, young head left, WW buried in truncation for engraver William Wyon, Latin legend surrounding, VICTORIA D: G: BRITANNIAR: REG: F: D:, rev. St. George and dragon right, date in exergue, small B.P. to upper right of exergue, 8.00g (Hill 84; Bull EGC -; S.3856A). Toned, perhaps once cleaned, with lots of little surface marks, tone scratch on cheek, otherwise about very fine, better than usually seen as bullion for the first year of the revival of the St George reverse since the time of George IV.

Calendar Year Mintage 8,767,250.

Maurice Bull omitted the small BP variety listing in his book on English gold coinage.

The obverse Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith".
