Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1871, die number 78 on reverse, second young head left, nose points to T in legend, type A2, date below, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, toothed border around rim both sides, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, die number below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REX FID: DEF:, weight 3.92g (Hill 446; Bull EGC.1271; S.3860). Toned with surface marks, a bold Fine, reverse better, the die number not listed in Marsh or Bull, rare.

Calendar year mintage 2,217,760.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse as "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
