Victoria (1837-1901),gold Sovereign, 1855, second larger young filleted head left, W.W. raised on truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA,rev.crowned quartered shield of arms, laurel wreath surrounding, emblems below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: (Bentley 72; Marsh 38A R5; S.3852C).A little unevenly toned, light surface marks, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as MS61, rare.

NGC Certification 6135271-007.

Calendar year mintage 8,448,482.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith."

Only a small proportion of the calendar year mintage would have continued with a WW raised obverse, the last year it appears for this type of head, with the majority having the WW incuse.
