Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1853, second young filleted head left, W.W. incuse on truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, laurel wreath surrounding, emblems below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: (Bentley 69; Marsh 36F R2; S.3852D). Toned, with some hairlines, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as MS61 and rare.
NGC Certification 6135271-005.
Calendar year mintage 10,597,993.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith."
Only a smaller proportion of the calendar year mintage would have the newly introduced for this year WW incuse obverse, with the majority having the WW raised.
