Victoria (1837-1901), gold proof Half Sovereign, 1853, large date, young head left, W.W. raised on truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. inverted die axis, crowned quartered shield of arms within laurel wreath, emblems below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, edge plain (WR 347 R3; Bull EGC 1250 R6; Hill 427B R6; S.3859). An excellent example of a rare date and variety in the Sovereign series, almost as struck with light hairlines on obverse, graded by NGC as PF64+ ULTRA CAMEO.

NGC Certification 6340069-001 the date variation not noted.

The Latin legend on the obverse translates as "Victoria by the Grace of God", continuing on the reverse as "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith".
