Victoria 1849 Groat, overdate with 9 over 8
Victoria (1837-1901), silver Groat, 1849, with 9 struck over 8, young filleted head left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA D: G: BRITANNIAR: REGINA F: D: rev. Britannia seated right with trident and shield, date in exergue, FOUR PENCE legend surrounding, weight 1.89g (Bull 3344; ESC 1946; Davies 1225; S.3913). Attractively toned, some ghosting both sides, otherwise a pleasing extremely fine.
The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
The overdate manifests as an extra connection between the centre left of the 9 and its foot below.
