Victoria 1848 Groat, large date

Victoria (1837-1901), silver Groat, 1848, large date figures, young filleted head left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA D: G: BRITANNIAR: REGINA F: D: rev. Britannia seated right with trident and shield, date in exergue, FOUR PENCE legend surrounding, weight 1.88g (Bull 3340; ESC 1943; Davies 1220; S.3913). Unevenly toned, extremely fine.

The Latin legend translates as "Victoria by the grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."

Only the Davies publication lists the large date variety.
