WYON RA on truncation, date below, legend and toothed surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA,rev.crowned quartered shield of arms within wreath, emblems below, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, edge inscribed with incuse lettering and star stops, DECUS ET TUTAMEN* ANNO REGNI VIII*, weight 28.25g (Bull 2561; Davies 431; ESC 280; S.3882).Perhaps once cleaned with residual uneven toning, some light rim bruises on reverse, good very fine.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Britain's, Defender of the Faith."
The legend on the edge translates as "An ornament and a safeguard in the eighth year of her reign."
The young head crowns of Queen Victoria are the only Victoria coins by Wyon to carry his name in full with the Royal Academy initials after.
