Victoria 1839 Proof Half-Sovereign

Victoria (1837-1901), gold Proof Half-Sovereign, 1839, first young head left, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. inverted die axis, crowned quartered shield of arms, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINIA FID: DEF: edge plain, weight 3.91g (WR 343; Marsh 414A; S.3859). A number of light hairlines and surface marks both sides, otherwise good extremely fine and becoming rare.

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
