Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1838, first young head left, W.W. raised on truncation for engraver William Wyon, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA,rev.crowned quartered shield of arms within laurel wreath, emblems below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINIA FID: DEF: (Bentley 36; Marsh 22 R; S.3852). Toned with some surface marks and nicks both sides, has been graded by NGC as AU50, the first year of the Sovereign in this long reign.

NGC certification 6318203-009.

Calendar Year Mintage 2,718,6904

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "Queen of the Briton's, Defender of the Faith."
