Theodosius II (AD 402-450), gold Solidus, Constantinople, AD 441-450, D N THEODOSI-VS.P.F.AVG, helmeted bust three-quarters facing, diademed, draped and cuirassed, spear over shoulder, shield decorated with horseman riding down enemy, rev. IMP.XXXXII.COS.-XVII.P.P., in exergue COMOB, Constantinopolis enthroned, holding sceptre and cross on globe, star in left field, 4.49g, 6h (RIC X, 293). Crisply struck and well defined, extremely fine.
