17th Century Token, Somerset, Taunton, Farthing, 1667, a tun over a letter T, two dots above, pellet centre quatrefoil either side at bottom, all within inner beaded circle, legend and toothed border surrounding, pellet centred quatrefoil at top, *A. TAVNTON. FARTHING, rev. castle within beaded circle, date at top with legend, .BY. THE. CONSTABLES, weight 2.03g (Boyne 182; BW.229). Toned about very fine.
Of all the town pieces in the 17th Century token series this is the only one issued by the Constables meaning the governors of the Royal castle which is depicted on this token.
