Sicily, Syracuse (Second Democracy, 466-405 B.C.), Silver Tetradrachm, struck c. 415-405 B.C. Charioteer, holding a kentron and the reins, driving a fast quadriga left, Nike flies above to right to crown the charioteer, a shell in exergue, rev. diademed head of Arethusa facing left, with flowing hair, wearing a necklace, four dolphins swimming around, 17.16g., 1h (Tudeer 12 (V5/R9); SNG ANS 254 (this reverse die); BMC 143 (these dies); Jameson 791 (these dies)). Attractive old cabinet tone, good very fine, a very pleasing example.
