Scotland, William I "The Lion" (1165-1214), silver Sterling, crescent and pellet coinage, class I (c.1174-80), Roxburgh Mint, Moneyer Raul, crowned bust left holding cross potent topped sceptre within linear circle, legend and outer border surrounding, +WILL:A:M: E: RX:, rev. struck en medaille, cross pattee within inner beaded circle, crescent and pellet in each angle, tiny inner pellet in each inner right angle of cross, legend surrounding, +RAVL: O [N:RO]C, weight 1.45g (Burns -; cf. SCBI 35:38-47 Scottish; S.5024). With an old cabinet tone, well struck though a little off-centre on reverse, good very fine for issue, very rare.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "William King" and on the reverse as "Raul of Roxburgh"
The obverse reads William at the start missing the usual "REI" reading.
