Scotland, Robert III gold Lion, heavy coinage, 2nd issue XF45

Scotland, Robert III (1390-1406), gold Lion of Five Shillings, heavy coinage (c.1390-1403), second issue, crowned Scottish arms within linear and beaded circles, legend with triple pellet stops, +ROBERTVS: DEI: GRACIA: REX: SCOTTORV:, rev. inverted die axis, St Andrew without nimbus on short cross cruciform, cord around waist with long strap end, fleur de lis either side, legend with triple pellet stops, +XPC: REGnAT: XPC: VInCIT: XPC: ImPERAT:, weight 3.64g (Burns 10 fig. 383; S.5155). Struck from rusty dies with associated texture to field, has been graded and slabbed XF45 very rare.

NGC certification 4467213-007. Currently the second finest graded as of late February 2024.

The legends translate as "Robert, by the grace of God, King of the Scottish," and on the reverse as "Christ reigns, Christ conquers, Christ commands."
