Scotland, John Baliol (1292-96), silver Penny, First coinage, rough surface issue, St Andrew's mint, bust left with sceptre, legend surrounds IOhANNES DEI GRA, rev. two mullets of five points, two stars of six, reads CIVITAS SANDRE, weight 1.43g (cf. SCBI 35 [Scottish], 294-97; cf. Burns 15, fig. 218; S.5067). Rich tone with hues of magenta, some better overall detail considering it is a rough surface issue type, reverse with two mullets of five points and two stars of six, legends partially double struck and blundered, bold fine for type, very rare.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on obverse "John by the grace of God, and on the reverse as "City of Saint Andrews".
