Scotland, James VI (1567-1625), after Accession to English throne, gold Britain Halfcrown, ninth coinage (1604-09), type II, King half-length right, wearing Scottish crown, beaded border surrounding with legend, initial mark thistle, .I. D. G. ROSA. SINE. SPINA., rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, Scottish arms feature twice, legend and beaded borders surrounding, initial mark thistle, TVEATUR. VNITA. DEVS., weight 1.18g (SCBI 35 [Ashmolean], 1359; SCBI 71:1375 Stewartby; Burns 6 fig.992; S.5470). Toned with underlying red mint bloom, one light crease, good fine, very rare.
The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "James by the grace of God, a rose without a thorn" and on the reverse "May God guard these united."
