Scotland, James VI (1567-1625), silver Quarter-Merk, 1603, Eighth Coinage, crowned Scottish arms, legend and beaded border surrounding, IACOBVS. 6. D. G. R. SCOTORVM, rev. crowned thistle plant, legend and beaded border surrounding, REGEM. IOVA. PROTEGIT. 1603 , weight 1.49g (Burns -, note; S.5499). Toned very fine for issue and an extremely rare date, Burns only recorded a note of one example he had not seen.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "James the Sixth, by the Grace of God, King of Scotland" and on the reverse "Jehovah protects the King."
