Scotland, Charles II 1681 Quarter Dollar or Merk

Scotland, Charles II (1649-85), silver Quarter Dollar, 1681, laureate and draped bust left, F in front of drapery presumably for Falconer, outer beaded circle with legend surrounding, CAROLVS. II. .DEI. GRA. rev. pair of interlinked Cs at centre of crowned cruciform shields, thistles in angles, date either side of top crown, .SCO ANG.FR ET.HIB REX., edge plain, weight 6.61g (Burns 7, fig 1056; S.5620). Toned, about very fine for issue, rare.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "King of Scotland, England, France and Ireland."
