Scotland, Charles II (1649-85), silver Merk, 1673, first type, thistle head below laureate and draped bust right, outer beaded circle with legend surrounding, CAROLVS. II. DEI: GRA. rev. value XIII over 4 at centre of crowned cruciform shields, crowned interlinked Cs in angles, crowns intrude legend, date either side of crown to upper left, legend surrounding, .MAG BRI. FRA ET. HIB REX., edge plain, weight 6.34g (Burns 11, fig 1052; S.C.B.I. 35:1590; S.5611). Toned a little unevenly, some light surface marks, with a decent face, a bold very fine for issue.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles the second, by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "King of Great Britain France and Ireland."
