Scotland, Charles II (1649-85), silver Merk, 1673,first type, thistle head below laureate and draped bust right, outer beaded circle with legend surrounding, CAROLVS. II. DEI: GRA. rev. value XIII over 4 at centre of crowned cruciform shields, crowned interlinked Cs in angles, crowns intrude legend, date either side of crown to upper left, legend surrounding, .MAG BRI. FRA ET. HIB REX., edge plain, weight 6.38g (Burns 11, fig 1052; S.C.B.I. 35:1590; S.5611). Toned, rim showing blank file marks and metal starvation at GRA of legend, otherwise a bold to good very fine for issue.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God," and on the reverse "King of Great Britain France and Ireland."

With an old ticket stating that it was purchased from Corbitt and Hunter in 1965 for 30/-.
