Scotland, Charles I (1625-49), silver Twenty Pence, third coinage (1637-42), Thomas Falconer's first issue (1637-38), type IV with F only over crown on reverse, crowned bust left breaking inner linear circle, value XX behind head, inner linear circle legend and outer beaded circle surrounding both sides, legend commences lower left, no initial mark, pellet stops, CAR. D: G. MAG. BR. FR. ET. HIB. REX., rev. crowned thistle, legend commences upper right, .IVSTITIA. THRONVM. FIRM, followed by F prone over crown (cf.Burns 47; S.5589). Toned has been graded and slabbed by PCGS as VF20, unrecorded readings in Burns, therefore extremely rare.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland" and on the reverse "The safety of the State is the supreme law."
The readings listed in Burns do not list the MAG reading in combination with HIB on obverse and there are no reverse readings with the abbreviated FIRM for FIRMAT.
