Scotland, Charles I (1625-49), silver Forty Pence, Thomas Falconer's first issue with F at end of reverse legend (1637-38), crowned bust left to bottom of coin, value XL behind head, inner linear circle legend and outer beaded circle surrounding both sides, legend commences bottom left, CAR. D: G. SCOT. ANG. FR. ET. HIB. R., rev. crowned thistle, small stop either side of orb on top of crown, legend commences upper right, .SALVS. REIPVB. SVPREMA. LEX. F, the last F on its side, weight 1.57g (Burns 31; S.5578). Toned good very fine and pleasing.

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Scotland, England, France and Ireland" and on the reverse "The safety of the State is the supreme law."
